Captain Tom’s legacy from his actions during the pandemic is known to everyone throughout the UK, if not the world. What started as a small mission to raise money for the NHS turned him into a national treasure. In a new Channel 5 Captain Tom Moore documentary, they aim to investigate recent controversy around the handling of Captain Tom’s charity.
The humble war veteran hailing from Keighley, West Yorkshire, gained his UK-wide status almost three years ago – after his admirable efforts to raise funds for the NHS went viral during the first national lockdown.
He became all anyone was talking about after he embarked on his mission to walk 100 laps of his garden raising a massive £38 million for NHS Charities Together. Sadly, it is alleged that donations raised through the Captain Tom Foundation have been mismanaged by the Tom’s daughter.
The 90-minute documentary comes after Hannah Ingram-Moore told TalkTV’s Piers Morgan Uncensored that the family kept profits from three books her father wrote at his request, Radio Times reports.

The Captain Tom documentary will uncover how the money raised by him during the pandemic was used. Federico Ruiz and Adrian Padmore the Channel 5 Commissioning Editors, Unscripted, Channel 5 and Paramount+, said: “Like everyone else in the country, we’ve been gobsmacked by the developments in this story. The deeper you dig, the further the rabbit hole goes.
“Where did the Captain Tom money go? Forget what you already know; after watching this doc you’ll be seriously questioning every single penny you’ve ever given away for a good cause.”
Andy Dunn, Executive Producer, ITN Productions added: “Nobody can forget the enormity of Captain Sir Tom Moore’s achievement during COVID, raising tens of millions for the NHS. It was a global phenomenon and he inspired so many.
“This documentary will examine Captain Tom’s legacy, paying tribute to the man who won the nation’s hearts but also unpick the claims and allegations that have thrown his charitable foundation into turmoil.”
We aren’t sure on a release date for the Captain Tom documentary, but it will air on Channel 5.
