99-Year-Old Yorkshire War Veteran Finishes His 100 Laps, Raising £18M For NHS
Incredible work, Tom!

In case you needed some cheering up today, the internet’s latest hero, Captain Tom Moore from Keighley, has been warming hearts across the nation ahead of his 100th birthday.

Announcing that he’d be raising money for the NHS by walking 100 laps of his garden (with the help of his frame), Tom Moore has done more than just add a bit of cheer to these dark days, exceeding target after target every single day for his fundraiser. Nothing like making us feel guilty for sitting on our arses the whole lockdown, right?

Hitting a major milestone just today, the fundraiser has officially raised over £18M already, with Tom completing his lengths of his garden, which he promised to do by today (Thursday 16 April).

The Veteran was enlisted in 8 DWR at the beginning of WWII, and by 1940 was selected for Officer training. The hero served in India and fought on the Arakan, before going to Regiment to Sumatra after the Japanese surrender.

Originally hoping to raise just £1000 for NHS Charities Together, the Veteran has completely blown it out of the park, raising a whopping £18M as of April 17. The incredibly kind soul wanted to thank NHS staff after receiving treatment for both cancer and a broken hip – making his commitment even more commendable.

The 99-year-old has now completed all 100 of his laps – weeks before his original target of April 30, which will mark his 100th birthday. You can find out more about the cause and support Tom via his JustGiving page here.
