Nidd Falls near Lofthouse in the Yorkshire Dales is a great waterfall to discover found along the River Nidd. If you’re looking to stretch your legs and get some well-needed Vitamin D then the Nidd Falls and Scar House Reservoir short walk is the perfect way to enjoy some country air in the UK’s best national park.
Nature’s playground, the Yorkshire Dales, is full of fantastic cascading waterfalls to explore. And between the village of Lofthouse and the Nidd Falls you can experience a range of smaller waterfalls just up from the footbridge crossing the Nidd along with the fantastic Nidd Falls which is a quick walk outside of the Yorkshire Dales village of Lofthouse.
Lofthouse is located in the upper Nidderdale region of the Yorkshire Dales, which is known as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), The great walk takes in the Nidd Falls along with Thrope Edge offering incredible views throughout.
Head over to the village of Lofthouse and head out towards Scar House reservoir and you will see the fire station on the right. Park up off the road.

There is a footpath that heads down the left-hand side of the first station. heading right over a footbridge and you’ll find the magnificent waterfall over a stile and at the far end of the field dropping down to the waterfall – which is great all year round.

After you’ve enjoyed Nidd Falls, head back to your car and drive up to the car park for Scar House Reservoir. The four-mile walk takes you around the beautiful body of water with some fantastic points of interest along the way.

We always like to end our walks in a nice pub, and the village of Lofthouse’s Crown Hotel is a great place to grab a local ale after a short walk through some stunning countryside.
