Channel 5’s reboot of the classic All Creatures Great and Small started earlier this month to the excitement of all its fans. The show inspired by James Herriot’s novels has proved popular across the UK with its beautiful scenery and agricultural adventures of a young vet.
Fans of the original BBC adaptation that ran for over a decade will be excited to know that the cast and crew will be in Thirsk this Saturday to mark the launch of a book that celebrates the original series from back in the 1970s to the early 90s.

The book has been written by Oliver Crocker and features memories from the cast and crew, as well as a foreword written by Rosie Page Alf Wight – the real James Herriot’s daughter. Cast members of the BBC drama include Christopher Timothy (James Herriot), Peter Davison (Tristan Farnon), Carol Drinkwater (Helen) and the late Robert Hardy (Siegfried Farnon).

One Amazon reviewer wrote that: “Oliver Crocker’s book is a love letter to what is among television’s finest and warmest dramas and arguably set the template for that cuddly Sunday evening light drama affair which meant going to bed and waking up for another week of work or school was a tolerable thing to do.”
You can find Oliver Crocker signing copies of his book, ‘All Memories Great & Small’ this Saturday in White Rose Books and coffee bar in Thirsk, where Alf Wright has his vet practice and where the original series was filmed.
Writing about the event the coffee shop wrote: “Author Oliver Crocker will be signing copies of his new edition of ‘ALL MEMORIES GREAT & SMALL: EXPANDED EDITION’.Oliver will be accompanied by special guests from the original series, Ali Lewis (Rosie Herriot), Paul Lyon (Jimmy Herriot), Jessica Sewell (Mary, granddaughter to Thora Hird in two episodes), plus costume designer Janice Rider and make-up artist Vivien Oldham.
