If you find yourself in the Sharrow Vale area in Sheffield anytime, then don’t miss out on the chance to visit the ultimate neighbourhood spot, serving up the tastiest Neopolitan pizza. Porter Pizza Co has created a vibrant hangout that is effortlessly cool and at the same time authentically charming, making me want to pack up and move to the steel city after my visit.
I’ve always loved those proper local gems that you’d never come across on a tourist visit to the city, where you spend your time in the city centre, met with the usual high street chains. And, Sheffield’s Sharrow Vale is an area that is increasingly seeing the opening of fantastic independent spots serving up exciting new offerings. And, this charming pizza spot is one of them. Opening in its current location back in 2024, Porter Pizza Co has been serving up its taste of Italy since 2015 – and we’re so happy we decided to visit them.

From the classic cosy pizzeria shop front giving off old-world charm with its black painted facade with gold and red vintage style lettering, lit by nostalgic warm brass lamps, to the large black-framed windows making you feel like you’re missing out on goodtimes from the outside; everything about this place invites you in, offering a real community-oriented feel. Everything screams we are independent, we are cosy, and we’d like you to join us.
Inside, it’s immediately clear why this place has such a reputation. There’s a real buzz in the air, with the tightly packed pizzeria alive with conversation and movement. Your eye is drawn straight to the open kitchen, where pizzaioli work at pace, sliding pizzas in and out of the wood-fired oven. Watching the process unfold in front of you is part of the experience, and it gives you a genuine appreciation for the skill required to turn out so many pizzas, so quickly, and to such a high standard.
The dough is made in-house and left to prove slowly overnight, before being shaped by hand into dough balls and left to prove again. This gives the dough time to do its thing, adding complexity to the depth of flavour and texture you expect from a Neapolitan pizza. Each pizza is then hand-topped using the finest ingredients from a range of artisan Italian and local suppliers. After all that time, love and care, it’s into the oven — and in just 60 seconds, all that effort results in a damn tasty pizza, complete with the puffy, charred crust that defines this classic style.
The menu caters for vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters alike — and, crucially, no one feels like an afterthought. The vegan pies are just as exciting and tempting as the meat-heavy options. On this occasion, we were in the mood for something properly indulgent and went all in on a meaty feast, choosing the Honey Pie and the Flamin’ Nora, both of which went down a treat.
The Honey Pie comes topped with a tomato base, pepperoni, goat’s cheese, basil, mozzarella and hot honey, while the Flamin’ Nora delivers a punchier hit with tomato, Napoli salami, ’nduja, fresh chilli, chilli flakes and mozzarella. At £13 each, they’re exceptional value for money.

All in all, all that time spent was worth it because these were some of the best we’ve tried in Yorkshire. From the airy crust, to the generous toppings that worked in harmony to create a taste that meant we were already thinking about the next bite before finishing the previous. This is one spot we’d add to your list for sure.
On top of the incredible food, these guys also offer traditional cocktails served in tumbles classic cosy vibes style along with imported Italian lagers and for dessert homemade gilato. What more could you want?
