Nowt beats a beige lunch here in Yorkshire. Whether it’s a dog roll or a steak bake – we certainly won’t turn our nose up at it, particularly if it comes highly commended.
Which is where we introduce you to The Original Baker – formerly known as The Yorkshire Baker. Founded in the lovely market town of Malton – which you may already know as the Food Capital of Yorkshire – The Original Baker started out with one ethos, in particular, in mind: creating the best products with the finest of ingredients; an ethos that has certainly put their name on the foodie map in recent years.

But today, the business has evolved – becoming the lifeblood of many local farm shops across Yorkshire and providing some of the freshest bakes in the region to small, local businesses, which is where you may recognise their packaging from.
Handmaking each and every pie and pastry, The Original Baker’s team may have grown – but the ethos remains the same, with every artisan baker on the team fully behind the bakery’s traditional method that, quite simply, gets delicious results.
Think all-butter pastry packed with locally-sourced ingredients, in the form of sausage rolls, classic pies, quiches, and pasties – the latter of which have become a star product for the bakery over the years.

Putting a Yorkshire spin on the classic Cornish Pasty, the Yorkshire Pasty follows the same traditions as the original – filled with beef, potato, swede and onion in a puffy, all-butter pastry, except completely handmade in Yorkshire making for a patriotic treat.
Our favourite, however, has to be their epic Pork Pies, which come in a variety of sizes (obviously we’re a big fan of the largest one) encased in a crispy butter-enriched pastry and packed full of Yorkshire pork. Because where else would they source their pork from?

So, how do you find these delightful pastries, I hear you ask… While The Original Baker operates as a wholesale business only, their products can be found in a huge selection of farm shops across the region, alongside Chatsworth and Fenwicks stores.
