With the highly anticipated Harry Potter series set to premiere on HBO this Christmas with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, now is the perfect time to head to an exciting Harry Potter-themed light trail in the north of England.
Get a magical start to your Christmas celebrations with the Forbidden Forest experience, which is returning to Bolesworth Castle in Cheshire this December. The forest comes to life with iconic creatures from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchises, allowing you to immerse yourself in the wizarding world as you step into this enchanting woodland.
As night falls, the Forbidden Forest comes to life. You can explore a 1.95km illuminated woodland trail, encountering magical creatures along the way. Bow to a Hippogriff, watch out for mischievous Nifflers, spot unicorns and discover plenty more surprises.

You can also cast spells, attempt to conjure your own Patronus, step inside Aragog’s cobwebbed lair and take pictures inside the Thestral Carriage, pulled by those mysterious, winged skeletal horses.
New additions this year include a magical Golden Egg and an even more terrifying Death Eater, bringing some fresh wizarding world magic to the experience. There will also be wand duels, Quidditch-themed photo opportunities and plenty of chances to capture some memorable pictures along the way.

The trail takes between 60 and 90 minutes to explore, with light installations, projections and soundscapes helping to bring the woodland to life. Once you’ve made your way through the Forbidden Forest, you’ll be able to head to the themed village and indulge in food and drink inspired by the Harry Potter universe, as well as browse official merchandise and pick up a souvenir of your visit.
The experience has already welcomed more than three million visitors across 16 cities worldwide. It previously visited Cheshire in 2021 and 2022, attracting more than 180,000 people, and this winter marks its return to the UK.
Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience arrives at Bolesworth Castle from 10 December 2026, with evening sessions running between 4.30pm and 9pm. The trail is suitable for all ages, making it a magical festive outing for families, friends and devoted Potter fans.
Tickets go on general sale today (Tuesday 3 November), with a pre-sale already available to those who joined the waitlist. You can find out more and book tickets through the official Fever website here.
