Yorkshire is home to some fantastic farm shops, but Mainsgill Farm Shop, just outside Richmond, might just be the biggest we’ve ever visited. And the gigantic farm shop has won the award for best farm shop or deli in Yorkshire at the Muddy Stilettos Award for 2026
Set on a working farm on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, Mainsgill has become a destination in its own right, attracting visitors from across the region with its huge farm shop, café, and impressive range of local produce. Each year, the Muddy Stilettos Award allows businesses across the country to put themselves forward for a range of categories, and then the entries are whittled down to a handful of finalists who are then voted on by the public.
This Giant Yorkshire Farm Shop Is a Food Lover’s Dream
Before you even begin exploring the two-storey shop, it’s worth stopping off at the café. Here, guests can tuck into hearty breakfasts, lunches, homemade cakes, and sweet treats, with many of the dishes made using meat reared right there on the farm. Beef, pork, and lamb all feature heavily on the menu, showcasing the quality produce that Mainsgill is known for.
And if there’s one thing we’d recommend, it’s saving room for cake. The counter is packed with tempting homemade bakes that make choosing just one a real challenge.
Once you’ve finished eating, it’s time to explore. The farm shop is stocked with all the classics you’d hope to find, including home-reared meats from the butcher’s counter, fresh local fruit and vegetables, preserves, deli goods, and an impressive selection of Yorkshire produce.
There are also plenty of giant pies, pastries, and savoury treats to take home, making it difficult to leave empty-handed.
But Mainsgill is much more than just a food destination. The vast retail space also includes clothing from brands such as Barbour and Lighthouse, alongside gifts, accessories, and a huge homeware department.
We found ourselves browsing for far longer than planned, particularly among the beautiful homeware displays. From stylish faux florals and elegant vases to furniture and decorative pieces, there is plenty to inspire anyone looking to refresh their home.
Even four-legged visitors haven’t been forgotten. Mainsgill has its own doggy pick ‘n’ mix, allowing owners to stock up on a selection of treats in their dog’s favourite flavours.
Whether you’re visiting for breakfast, stocking up on local produce, shopping for gifts, or simply enjoying a leisurely browse, Mainsgill Farm Shop is one of those places where it’s easy to lose a few hours.
If you love good food, Yorkshire produce, and a proper farm shop experience, this Richmond favourite is well worth a visit.
