A new lounge bar could be set to open in the former spot of Michel-star chef’s restaurant, Michael Pern’s Star Inn the Harbour in Whitby – after the spot closed back in November 2022. Since then the prime location has sat empty, but could now be given a new lease of life.
Located right on the harbour in the busiest part of town the spot is a prime location for any bar or restaurant looking to make a go of it. And, Loungers UK has applied for a premises license on the former location of Star Inn the Harbour, which opened back in 2017.
The applicant runs the Marisco Lounge in Scarborough, which describes itself as a offering ‘all the comforts of home, but better’.
If the application is approved, the lounge would be allowed to sell alcohol between 10am and midnight seven days a week.
As the location is such a prime spot, sitting empty is a real shame for the town, which is known as a bustling seaside tourist spot that sees thousands flock to it all year round.
Discussing the closure of the restuarant at the time YorkMix reported that Mr Pern said: “It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we have decided to close The Star Inn the Harbour.
“The most damaging and miserable fact that marks their card is that [the council] took rent from us and most other businesses in the town during lockdown when we didn’t have a penny coming in.
“How greedy and short-sighted is that in a place which relies heavily on tourism and hospitality?”
