This Yorkshire Chippy Has Been Named Best In The UK, According To The Times

Fish & chips are synonymous with Yorkshire. Why? Because we do it best. And we aren’t the only ones who think so as one of Yorkshire’s chippies has been named best in the UK.

The Time recently named its best 18 fish & chips shops in the UK, and a Yorkshire restaurant took the number one spot with two others featuring in the list.

Taking the crown was none other than Whitehead’s Fish & Chips in Hornsea, which The Times named the best in the country.

It’s a double header for the chippy as it was also crowned number one at the National Fish & Chip Awards 2023. The Times praise the venue’s fish supper, and treacle sponge. The price ain’t too shabby as well with £8.25 for a regular haddock or £8.95 for cod and £2.30 for chips to takeaway.

Coming in at number nine was the newby Lighthouse Fisheries of Flamborough can be found near Bempton Cliffs, which also won best newcomer at the National Fish and Chip Awards 2023. A regular haddock and chips here will set you back for £9.30 or cod and chips for £9.60.

And finally, nipping in at number 16 is Whitby’s most popular chippy Magpie Café. Times reviewer Chris Haslam wrote: “It was all for nowt, though, because none came close to the quayside queen.”On the takeaway menu, it’s £10.95 for cod or haddock with chips.
