This Yorkshire Dales Winter Walk Named One Of Best With A Cosy Pub At The End

Some people like to hibernate over the winter period, turning to their favourite streaming platforms to help them through to the warmer months. Not us, here at The Yorkshireman, we only think their is bad clothing choices, not bad weather. Especially since there are some calories to burn off after all that naughty food over Christmas and the festive markets.

The scenery offered during winter is amazing, with the Dales offering some spectacular snow-topped peaks, making for photos you would get any other time of year. One walk in particular has been highlighted as one of the best for wintertime, located in Sedbergh in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Sedbergh, otherwise known as England’s book town, is a stunning traditional Dales market town, with cobbled streets and quaint shopfronts, a pub serving hearty grub and of course, incredible walks.

The Telegraph, named a seven-mile ramble that’s located around Sedbergh as one of the best winter walks in the country, and we’d have to agree. From Sedbergh, the walk takes you onto the Dales Way and takes around three to four hours. Highlights of the route include Yorkshire Dales landmarks, such as the railway viaduct across the River Lune, and Howgill Fells from Craggstone Woods.

They’re not the only ones who have highlighted Sedbergh as somewhere to visit this year. The Yorkshireman’s annual guide noted the charming market town as a place of interest. We loved our visit, where we stayed at the stunning Black Bull pub, which is home to some fantastic rooms as well as a dining experience like no other.

It’s book town title is also a little pull for those interested. It is typically a rural place with a strong concentration of second-hand and antiquarian bookshops, and Sedbergh fits the bill perfectly, with its independent bookshops, cosy cafés, and welcoming pubs creating a relaxed and characterful atmosphere for visitors and walkers alike.
