This Yorkshire City Has Been 2nd Best Place To Visit In The UK In 2024

We’re big advocates for Hull, we believe it’s an underrated city with some great restaurants and bars as well as plenty of cultural experiences. So, to see it featured in Time Out Magazine‘s best places in the UK to visit in 2024 pleased us greatly.

Beating the likes of London and Manchester, the city is finally getting the attention we feel it deserves. Film companies use its picturesque Old Town for shows like the recent Netflix series Bodies and Hollywood flick sequel to Enola Holmes starring Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things and Henry Cavill.

Time Out praises Hull’s new ‘Freedom Quarter’, which is due to bar owners on Savile Street working to transform the area into a space for the LGBT community. The travel magazine named Hull as a “surprising capital” for the UK’s LGBT community after the influx of new gay bars such as Monroe’s, Unite 49 and Cherry’s.

Writing about what Hull has to offer, it suggest grabbing a coffee at the popular wine bar and coffee shop Still (which it refers to as its previous name Two Gingers Coffee House), it also mentions Hepworth’s Arcade for a spot of Shopping along with a quick pint at Ye Olde White Hart.

Obviously, a magazine writing about Hull as a place to visit can’t not mention The Deep which it writes: It’s got The Deep, an enormous aquarium with 3000 species, a picturesque old town which survived the city’s relentless WWII bombings, and lots of up and coming indie art galleries like Ground and Artlink. Don’t sleep on Hull.”

We’d add taking a venture down Newland Avenue to try out some of its fantastic food spots like the hidden gem Italian Mancia Sicilian Kitchen. Heading over to Princes Ave for a Sunday Roast at Marla’s Sandwich Shop is a must as well. Not to mention Paragon Arcade’s many, many independents and of course Humber Street. The list goes on…

One thing is for sure though, we are glad to see that Hull is getting its overdue love from bigger travel magazines like Time Out.
