Two Yorkshire Beaches Named In Best In The UK

The Yorkshire coastline offers some of the best beaches in the world — never mind the UK. And yes, you’re right in thinking we might be a little biased. We love the dramatic cliffs that overlook some of Yorkshire’s finest beaches. But you also can’t beat a classic seaside holiday: a bucket and spade, a couple of towels and fish and chips just a stone’s throw away. It really can’t be beaten.

Yorkshire practically invented the seaside holiday, with Scarborough often considered the country’s oldest seaside town. So it’s no surprise to see two of Yorkshire’s beaches featured in Condé Nast’s list of the top 60 beaches in the UK.

First on the list is Filey. According to the travel magazine, wildlife is one of the best parts of this sandy beach, with particular attention given to Filey Brigg — the stretch of rocky land that juts out into the sea. It offers rock pools to explore, a sculpture trail along the beach and a series of colourful chalets dotted along the coastline that are available to rent.

Next on the list is South Bay in Scarborough. How could it not be? The magazine highlights how Scarborough was one of the original spa towns, with visitors travelling there as far back as 1611 to bathe in the sea, as the waters were believed to have healing properties.

Today, it offers picturesque views and all the classic elements of a traditional British seaside break, with Scarborough Castle watching over the bay.
