Two Yorkshire Villages Named Among Best Coastal Spots In The UK

The summer holidays are underway, and you might need a little inspiration to keep the kids entertained. The beach is the perfect treat, as it can cost as much or as little as you need it to. You can either wrap up some sarnies, pack some crisps and drinks, or enjoy the classic seaside treats of fish & chips and ice cream. And these two Yorkshire villages have been named among the best coastal towns in the UK right now.

The website Holidays Cars searched out places with fascinating museums, top-notch restaurants, and quintessential arcades and ice cream parlours to name the best spots to visit this summer.

First on the list was Robin Hood’s Bay, which, if you haven’t been, you need to add to your list as this place is like no other spot in the UK. Situated on the steepest hill in history (in our eyes), the little village is littered with red-roofed cottages and a labyrinth of alleyways to explore—all with little pockets of beauty along the way. At the bottom, you’re greeted with the natural wonder that is the Yorkshire Coast, with its vast beaches and impressive cliffsides.

Oh, and of course, there are some absolute pub gems full of character such as the Laurel Inn, which just happens to be my favourite pub ever.

Next is Staithes, in 16th place, located further up the coast and another fishing village. If you were to happen upon it from the cliffs above, you might think you’ve fallen straight into a fairy tale. Its 18th-century cottages and cobbled streets make it a treasure of the Yorkshire coastline.

Once one of the largest fishing ports in the North East and a thriving fishing village, Staithes is sheltered by high cliffs peppered with quaint fisherman cottages and B&Bs overlooking the port, making it the perfect getaway.

Beating out both Yorkshire spots to the top spots were New Quay, Ceredigion, Wales in first; North Berwick, East Lothian, Scotland in second; and Looe, Cornwall, England taking the bronze.
