Harrogate is a beautiful spa town in North Yorkshire. Home to the likes of Betty’s Tea Room, beautiful floral displays at RHS Garden Harlow Carr, of course, the Turkish Baths, The Stray – home to an ‘avenue’ of cherry blossom trees- and much more. So, it’s no surprise it’s been crowned the UK’s top staycation spot to drive to for a holiday.
The town beat out popular destinations such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Newquay and Great Yarmouth to reach the number one spot. Staycations are becoming ever-popular as people choose to visit spots closer to home. And AA experts found after conducting their own analysis that North Yorkshire’s own was the top choice.

Factors such as accommodation options, local contentment scores, availability of parking, petrol stations, and electric vehicle charging points were all factors. Harrogate rated 7.8 out of 10 in happiness and other factors.
Just behind Harrogate was Stratford-upon-Avon in second and Newquay in third place.

It’s not the only Yorkshire spot to feature in the top staycation spots this year. As Hull was given the title by SumUp who said that the port city is home to the beautiful old town, marina and regenerated Humber Street, we can see why who conducted the research picked Hull.
