Off the back of Bradford’s year as City of Culture, a new programme of events have been planned to keep the ball rolling, continuing to bring world-class experiences to the city. And, one in particular is sure to add some colour to the West Yorkshire city.
The internationally renowned Flower Carpet is one of a few events taking over green spaces across the district. The Bradford Culture Company are bringing events to the city to celebrate the relationship between people, places and nature, inviting people to experience culture via traditional spaces inside Bradford city centre to the surrounding countryside.
The Flower Carpet is coming to the UK from September 24th to 27th in the heart of Bradford city centre, Great British Life reports. A local artist, Shiraaz Ali, has combined archival patterns and symbols that celebrate the city’s industrial growth, textile heritage and people. The living artwork is handmade from more than 300,000 colourful dahlia flowerheads.
Flower Carpet Event Bradford
A regular in Belgium since the 1970s, the world-famous Flower Carpet will be made by a team of 40 participants within the public realm of Centenary Square. The once-in-a-lifetime free event will be held, and the public can get up close to see the pavement transformed into rich beds of flowers.
And, not only can you visit in the daytime, but you can also visit at night, where it will be brought to life with sound and light. The flowers will change and respond to the environment across the four days. At the end of the event, the dahlias will be composted locally and naturally decompose.
