York Has Been Named As The Best Place To Live In Britain 2024

We bloomin’ love York. From its beautiful minster to its ancient cobbled streets, it’s a place that feels frozen in time. A rareity in these modern times. Walking through York is pure joy, so it’s no surprise that it’s been named as Britain’s best place to live.

Expert house buying experts housebuyers4u found that York is the most desirable place to live in the UK after their research. Using the likes of the Home Office data and TripAdvisor they created a score out of 100 that took in a range of factors such as culture, green spaces, housing and crime.

The historic North Yorkshire city scored 71 overall, 40% above the national average. Factors such as being surrounded by green space such as Rowntree Park and Musuem Gardens, its cultural significance and family-friendly activities helped it gain such high marks.

In second place was Nottingham, which scored 69 and in third place was Blackpool, which got a score of 69. In fourth place was Edinburgh and fifth Newcastle.

York is definitely a beautiful place and we look forward to the York Christmas Market that is set to take place this month. The city transforms into a magical wonderland over the festive period and sees thousands flock to enjoy the Christmas cheer.

Paul Gibbens, property expert at housebuyers4u, said: “These findings have highlighted the best places to live in 2024. York, a location known for historic buildings and picturesque landscapes that attract millions of visitors yearly, takes the top spot due to its unique combination of cultural vibrancy, abundant green spaces, and more.

“This recognition is a testament to York’s ability to balance tradition with modern amenities, making it a sought-after location for residents looking for both charm and practicality.”
