It seems that a post-lockdown life may be a little different than the one we know almost a year ago. Having to spend more time in their homes working as well as travel restrictions, has meant that people are looking for something a little different than before – and it shows in the best places to live list 2021. It seems the rolling hills, and idyllic architecture that usually brings people to Yorkshire on holiday is now seen as an ideal place to buy – and we couldn’t agree more.

Previously, it was about whether or not your house was a commutable distance from the office where you worked, but as more than a quarter of us were working from home at the end of 2020 it seems our priorities have changed massively. Fast broadband is a huge factor for 95% of the 1,372 cities, towns and villages list compiled by estate agents, Garrington.

The overall winner of the league table compiled was the city of Bath. The table took into account such things as proximity to natural beauty, architectural beauty and quality of life. Of which Bath scored high. In that top ten list were to Yorkshire towns of Settle in 8th place and Wilton in 9th. Settle, well-known for its position on the Settle to Carlisle railway, and proximity to the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct scored high on all criteria – ranking 9th on architectural beauty and 22nd on natural beauty. Best of all, its average house price is half that of the winner at £340k.
9th place Wilton, a small village near Pickering, scored high on architectural beauty, coming in 5th place with house prices to match at £430,000. Usually popular with tourists, these North Yorkshire attractions are becoming popular places to live with great pubs, brilliant walks and a better quality of life to offer than their city counterparts.
