A Lone Seal Is Spotted In York City Centre For The First Time In Over 20 Years

Looks like a lone seal fancied a trip to see Clifford’s Tower and a trip to Betty’s for a Fat Rascal as he was spotted wandering up along the River Ouse a long way from home.

York is used to all sorts of visitors, being one of the top tourist spots in the world, but we’re never heard of this one before. Who’d have thought a seal all this way inland!

The medieval city has had many visitors over the years from Vikings to Johnny Depp who wandered down Stonegate for a few cocktails at Evil Eye – and now this lone seal fancied a little trip.

Spotted by the team at City Cruises in York, the commercial and marketing manager Chris Pegg, posted a snap to Twitter saying: “Glad to know this little guy is giving us his *seal of approval*… @citycruises” bad-dum-tish.

YorkMix reported our Pegg has said that no one at City Cruises had ever seen a seal here before with some staff being there for over 20 years! The seal was spotted at Clifton Sands which is found 40 miles from the sea.

It’s a far cry away from the Yorkshire Coast where you can spot seals during the autumn and winter months up at Flamborough Head.
