Aldi And Asda’s Introduce New ‘No Touch’ Rules For Shoppers
More procedures in place to stop the spread of COVID-19

Lockdown feels like it has been going on longer than the period between Christmas and New Years. We have all been sat sticking to the government guidelines the best we can, dreaming of summer days where we can all go out and see our families and friends.

In a bid to ensure safety of staff and customers two of the UK’s biggest supermarkets have introduced a ‘no touch’ rule in their shops to ensure that the spread of the COVID-19 is stopped.

There have been numerous initiatives across the country to stop the spread of the virus. Shops have limited the number of people in shops at one time and queues have been introduced outside that make sure that people stand 2 metres a part whilst waiting to go in the various shops.

Asda has introduced a new policy tha asks customers to avoid touching items they do not intend on buying or using.

This “touch less” and to “pick up only what you intend to buy” initiative makes sense as shopping is one of our only vices now, so heading to the shops it is tempting to browse the shelves.

The Asda Website says, “There will also be clear signage, directional barriers and floor markings to help you move around our store easily and maintain a two-metre distance from other customers and our colleagues,”

“We’re asking customers to only touch items they intend to purchase and to use cashless payment wherever they can to minimise contact.

“There will be regular announcements on Asda radio to remind customers of their responsibility to apply social distancing rules, and to help you do this we are closing every other self-checkout till.”

“Sanitisation stations are in place at the front of stores so it is easy for customers to disinfect their hands, trolleys and baskets before doing their shop,” a spokesperson said.

“Our store colleagues may ask that customers only touch trolleys they intend to use.”
