Following the news that series 7 of our favourite heartfelt drama would be hitting our screens again this month, Channel 5 has kindly given us a little glimpse into what to expect for our fresh adventure with James and gang.
Released online late last night, the 60-second trailer promises a ‘hopeful new chapter’ post-war, with plenty of action at Skeldale House (as ever!), the return of our favourite Darrowby faces, and even a little local rivalry for James and Siegfried. It also teases the arrival of Northern Irish actor Caolan McCarthy shaking things up as a series regular.
The new Dales dweller is set to bring ‘more of Herriot’s much-loved stories to life’ as the series progresses, and it seems he’s set to pose quite the challenge for our stubborn friend Siegfried, in particular, with plenty of family-friendly humour shown in the trailer already.
New beginnings are very much at the heart of the brand new series for what seems like all of our beloved Darrowby residents, with the promise of series 8 already in the works.

The new series begins on Channel 5 on Thursday 17th September and 9pm, airing weekly. Naturally, we’re chewing at the bit waiting to see how Tricki Woo is getting on. Filming took place earlier this year in Grassington and the wider Yorkshire Dales, with Grassington the official home of Channel 5’s Darrowby.
Series 7 will comprise six episodes, plus a confirmed Christmas special which will air later this year. In the US, the new series will air from 17th January 2027 on MASTERPIECE on PBS.
In the meantime, if you’re missing the heartwarming charm the creators of the series bring us, the team is also behind the Yorkshire-set The Hardacres, a period drama following a working class family in the 1800s. Both series are available to watch in full on 5.
