All Creatures Great and Small series 4 is set to grace our screens as the makers announce that it will air on Channel 5 on Thursday 5th October at 9pm. James Herriot and the gang will be in Darrowby once more which Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales, transformed into this summer.
The series, which has proved popular in the UK and over the pond, follows the series of books written by real-life vet Alf Wight, who wrote under the pen name James Herriot about his adventures in the Yorkshire Dales.
The second world war was prevalent in the third series of All Creatures Great and Small with many storylines being inspired by events of the time including the Christmas special, which saw a refugee come stay with the gang and share her religion.
Some first look images were released for the fourth series last month, and that got our excitement levels from the roof.

The special also set up the biggest shock for viewers with Tristan choosing to sign up for the war effort.
The influence of the war is set to be a feature of the fourth series of All Creatures Great and Small for sure.

When will All Creatures Great and Small series 4 air?
The new series will air will air on Channel 5 on Thursday 5th October with a Christmas special in December. This includes six 60-minute episodes plus a Christmas special.
Discussing the upcoming series Sebastian Cardwell, Deputy Director of Programmes at ViacomCBS Networks UK, said: “It is clear that our viewers adore James Herriot’s adventures in Darrowby and so do we at Channel 5. I am looking forward to us all being reunited with the Skeldale House family”.
What cast members will feature in the new series?

We can certainly expect all of the main All Creatures Great and Small cast to feature in the new series. It is unclear how much Tristan will be present as he heads out to war.
James and Helen’s relationship will hopefully see some new revelations with Helen worried about James and his decisions regarding the war.
Will we be seeing Mrs Hall’s love interest develop? We sure hope so! She could do with it after dealing with everyone else’s drama in Skeldale House.
One new person in All Creature Great and Small series 4 is the arrival is Richard Carmody, a fresh trainee in veterinary studies, introduces complications within the household.
Alf Wight’s children have shown their excitement about the new series Jim Wight and Rosie Page said: “For many years the books of James Herriot have provided a source of comfort to tens of thousands of people worldwide at difficult times in their lives. With this recent adaptation of his books, a new generation has been introduced to the joys of the Herriot stories.
“We are delighted that there are to be at least two more series of All Creatures Great and Small, and we are especially pleased that the same excellent actors and producers are to be involved.”
