Spending the weekend in York or simply fancy leaving your home’s four walls for something a little tastier? Just as York is packed full of incredible bars and late-night pubs, on the flip side, it also has a warming, neighbourhood buzz in the mornings – with tons of brunch spots to choose from in the city. Whether its a bit of eggs benni or a giant pancake stack that takes your fancy, here’s our guide to the very best places for brunch in York.
1. Brew & Brownie

A place that locals and tourists alike queue for in the mornings, Brew & Brownie is loved – to say the least.
Just a stone’s throw away from the iconic Minster, Brew & Brownie prides itself on serving up the foods of the season, using local suppliers such as Haxby Bakehouse and M&K Butchers for their dishes.
Enjoy all the classics, including Eggs Benedict, the Big Brew Breakfast, brioche French toast, and delicious stacks of American pancakes, finished with maple syrup, bacon, and all the good stuff.
Brew & Brownie, 5 Museum St, York, YO1 7DT.
2. Rise

Another of York’s cult-fave brunch spots, Rise ticks all the boxes for ‘vibey’ decor, Insta-worthy brunch dishes and a solid selection of iced lattes.
Inside, expect candy pink decor and chill vibes. Outside, expect a cute Parisian-style terrace overlooking Fossgate – the perfect spot to brunch away a hangover, if you ask me.
On the menu, expect delicious breakfast rolls, healthy acai bowls, and classic brunch dishes such as Eggs Royale, steak and eggs and Turkish eggs.

3. Partisan

Oozing quaint French vibes in the heart of historic York, Partisan has become a brunch staple in the city – particularly for their shakshuka and Full English, both served in cast iron pans making for great photos.
Their cake counter, however, is a feast for the eyes – with beautifully decorated Haxby Bakehouse pastries and stunning cakes baked in-house. A great excuse for a weekend treat.
For sunnier brunch mornings, guests can enjoy an outdoor terrace to the rear and limited street seating, or hibernate inside on colder, rainier days inside the cosy cafe, which boasts original wooden beams adorned on the walls (in true York style) and rustic decor.

4. The Blue Barbakan

Offering a brunch with a twist, The Blue Barbakan is well-known for its delicious Polish cuisine, but on the mornings, guests can enjoy their fantastic breakfast and brunch menu.
While you can expect your classic British breakfast plates such as the full English, omelettes and breakfast sandwiches, for us, what’s so exciting about this place is the opportunity to try something different – such as their intriguing Duck Rumor dish, Polish toast, potato pancakes and golabki. Whatever you order, this place is loved for its great food, either way.

5. Coffee Culture

Sitting just behind York Minster in a tiny Medieval building, Coffee Culture is a quirky neighbourhood cafe known for its artistic coffees (with the coolest coffee art in the foam), delicious grilled cheese and homemade cakes.
Coffee Culture serves a well-curated menu of classic brunch dishes, but we’d definitely recommend getting your chops around one of their huge ciabatta butties. That bread is perfection.
Coffee Culture, 41 Goodramgate, York, YO1 7LS.
6. The Cosy Club

The Cosy Club is a beautifully decorated venue in the heart of York, serving up a very extensive breakfast menu – so it’s pretty certain you’ll find something you fancy here. Be it vegan, meaty, vegetarian, they’ve really got the lot.
We’re talking chorizo hash, smashed avo, ‘dirty’ breakfast butties, chai granola bowls – you name it. But the best part? The menu of breakfast cocktails to wash it all down. Definitely the perfect place to eat away a hangover.

7. Double Dutch Pancake House

Double Dutch has been going viral on Tiktok recently, and for good reason. Specialising in, you guessed it, pancakes, Double Dutch Pancake House offers both sweet and savoury Dutch-style pancakes, with vegan options available, too.
The family-run spot has thought of everything when it comes to toppings, with classic bacon and butter, total Dutch meat feasts and even Mexican toppings on the savoury side, as well as Lotus Biscoff, Kinder Surprise, and Rocky Road on the sweet side.
Guests can also design their own, with over 75 toppings to choose from.

8. Robinsons Cafe

There’s something about Bishy Road, especially on a weekend morning. A road leading to the suburbs, Bishopthorpe Road has a vibe of its own – with a real neighbourhood feel making it seem like one of the most welcoming places on Earth.
Specialising in freshly made dishes with locally sourced ingredients, local fave Robinsons Cafe serves up some of the thickest American pancakes we’ve ever seen, alongside artisan-style brunch dishes like eggs on sourdough, Turkish eggs and black pudding and bacon hash.
