I bloomin’ love a chippy tea. And you don’t get better than Yorkshire Coast fish & chips —that’s just a fact. FRY Magazine seems to agree, naming one of Yorkshire’s finest among the top 10 fish & chip restaurants in the UK for 2025. The winners of the 13th annual FRY Awards were announced this week, narrowing down thousands of fish & chip spots to find the very best. Sounds like a dream job to me!
To determine the winners, judges assessed food quality, cleanliness, staff expertise, value for money, and ease of ordering. While Yorkshire is home to many incredible chippies (several of which made the top 50 takeaways list), just one Yorkshire restaurant made the top 10—and we think you already know which one.
The Magpie Café in Whitby, located right across from the famous 199 steps, is renowned for serving up some of the best fish & chips on the Yorkshire Coast. With stunning harbour views and a history dating back to 1937, it’s an iconic spot. Current owner Ian Robson started as a fish fryer there in 1979, and the café has built its reputation on multi-award-winning fish & chips, seafood chowder, and locally sourced seafood dishes.
