We aren’t vegan here at The Yorkshireman office, but some of these meat-free offerings in Leeds have got us ready to turn. We can’t wait to visit the city after the lockdown to sample some of the best vegan food Leeds has to offer.
There is so much choice, whether you’re craving a dirty burger or some home-cooked delights – Yorkshire’s biggest city has everything your tummy could possibly desire. Helping you to navigate the city’s vegan world, we’ve put together some of our top favourites for you to enjoy – in no particular order.
Found inside The Old Red Bus Station, Cantina claims to be the first all-vegan canteen that has an ever-changing menu of ‘classic’ and ‘naughty junk food’. Serving some of the best vegan food In Leeds, its vegan menu has featured some tasty treats throughout its time.
They’re bringing out a new menu when lockdown ends but, their Banh-Mi – which consists of buttermilk fried cauliflower with crispy kale, fried onions and a sriracha caramel sauce – is our favourite. Other highlights on the menu include deep-fried Oreos, cauli’ or mock wings, and loaded mac n’ cheeze – which will give you an idea of the delicious offerings they have. A Nordic-inspired Omni restaurant which caters to vegans, vegetarians and those looking for gluten-free options. Starter options include a delicious-sounding cauliflower & chestnut souple served with truffled croutons and sourdough. You won’t be missing your meat one bit when you chow down on this vegan food in Leeds city centre. They also have an incredible portobello mushroom Kyiv served with a courgette, carrot and watercress salad.
FINT also has a great range of brunch options with a Vege breakfast that includes vegan sausages, poached eggs or tofu scrambled egg, beans, pickled mushrooms, and confit tomato, all on a Raggmunk. It’s the vegan crumpets that we would like to get our chow down on though with spinach, tofu and vegan hollandaise. 73 Great George St, Leeds LS1 3BR
3. Friends of Food
With a slogan like ‘100% plant-based gourmet burgers – without compromise’, you know you’re in for a good meal. Situated in Hyde Park, their vegan burgers are tasty, succulent and so, so moreish. The ‘Signature’ burger features a Beyond Meat patty, smoked gouda ‘cheez’, a delicious house sauce, iceberg lettuce, dill pickles, red onion and tomato.
Our favourite, vegan-friendly restaurants in Leeds serves up the burger ‘The Big B’, which features a homemade whiskey BBQ sauce, Beyond Meat smashed patty, smoked gouda cheez, and This™ maple bacon – and we have to say it’s incredible. Park Corner, 12 Hyde, Leeds LS6 1AF
A Horsforth plant-based cafe that serves up a range of fantastic vegan food in Leeds. You can enjoy one of their fantastic lunch options which include tasted wraps and paninis the Kickin’ Chickn is a fried buttermilk spiced chicken with gouda style cheese and sriracha.

5. Döner Summer
Döner Summer was voted on of PETA’s top 10 vegan kebabs in the UK – and it’s not hard to see why. Situated in Leeds, the kebab legends have four other shops – including venues in both Sheffield and York. They serve their kebabs on locally baked Turkish bread with house sauces, vegan doner, a faux chicken – and a whole lotta filling.
They’re sure to satisfy Leeds’s vegan junk food needs with a tasty food offering like no other. Vegan food is no longer the dirty word it once was, people have become more open to trying meat-free alternatives. 10-12 Call Ln, Leeds LS1 6DN
6. The Great Indian Vegan
Situated in the city centre, The Great Indian Vegan does a range of Indian starters, mains and desserts that use locally sourced ingredients for their homemade curries. They were established in Leeds 10 years ago, so are old hands in the city. Indian food enthusiasts will know all too well that traditional Indian food is mostly vegan, so one thing that isn’t compromised here is that authentic flavour we all know and love. 17a Merrion St, Leeds LS2 8JE
7. Fat Annie’s
Found serving up fantastic food in Leeds Kirkgate since 2017, they went totally meat free in 2020 and their menu includes a bunch of New York-inspired dishes including a range of burgers and banging sides that will make you not wonder why you ever needed meat. If you’ve got a need for a tasty vegan hot dog or a vegan milkshake, the totally vegan restaurant in Leeds city centre will have you feeling satisfied with their 100% vegan meals. 28-34 George St, Leeds LS2 7HY
Indian street food and craft beer restaurant Bundobust, in Mill Hill, serves up a range of fantastic veggie and vegan food like no other. You can enjoy a range of the venue’s own beer along with fantastic food offering The food on offer at one of Leeds’ top vegan spots are Indian classics such as chaat, crispy bhajis, daal and a range of soft flatbreads with sweet peppers with tikka space and a whole range of incredible offerings
The plates turn up and are as much a feast for the eyes as they are to taste. Delicious dazzling colours and textures will make you want to order the whole lot. 6 Mill Hill, Leeds LS1 5DQ
