The East Yorkshire Racecourse Offering Pocket-Friendly Days Out This Summer

From mate dates and couples days out, to wholesome family activities – Beverley Racecourse has plenty of fixtures in the calendar this summer.

Overlooking the stunning Beverley Westwood, the racecourse is popular with locals and horse racing fans alike and has just kicked off the 2024 season with an epic family fun day (simultaneously as the sun finally reared its head!), which we, as East Yorkshire locals, of course, had to attend. We’ve been attending ever since we were kids, so it’d be sacrilege to skip a year.

Home to three enclosures – Premier, Grandstand & Paddock, and the Course Enclosure – guests can personalise their day out at the racecourse, with each enclosure offering a different vibe, depending on what you’re after. Fixtures vary, too, with events ranging from the Family Fun Raceday, to 70s Disco Racenights and the highly popular Ladies Day.

For those looking for exclusive access – perfect for mate dates and couple’s days out – the Premier enclosure (from £25pp) offers access to bars and restaurants that can’t be accessed via the other enclosures, including the Whistlejackets Lounge with cask ales on tap and the stylish Terrace Bar. The Whistlejackets Lounge was a regular pitstop for us between races thanks to said cask ales, and its prime position by the Premier stand offering a great vantage point of each race.

Additionally, guests of the Premier enclosure can enjoy a suntrap of a terrace where you can watch the races, with views of the winning post, too. It’s the perfect opportunity to dress up, and it’s the enclosure where you won’t feel out of place getting suited and booted and enjoying a bottle of fizz.

Elsewhere, guests can enjoy a more laidback racing experience in the Grandstand enclosure (£18pp), with access to the Rapid Lad Bar, Cleverley’s Bistro – which serves up accessible dishes such as burgers and loaded fries – and an array of street food-style vendors serving pizza, ice cream, cocktails and more. We tried the chicken burger and the beef brisket fries, both incredibly filling and tasty dishes that had us fuelled for the whole race day.

Finally, the Course enclosure (£7 per car) is most popular with families, allowing guests to drive up to the trackside, bring picnics and even enjoy fairground rides. For us, this is the most nostalgic area of the racecourse – as it’s the side of the course where many families congregate for the occasion, driving up with everything they need for a fun day out over the summer months. Guests at this enclosure can enjoy the race trackside, and expect a fantastic atmosphere on Family Fun Racedays, in particular.

While the main event is, of course, the racing, guests can also enjoy rides and live entertainment (event permitting), the Parade Ring and Paddock (where the horses warm up and de-saddle), tons of food and drink, as well as guest caterers and the Lavender Lawn.

The Paddock Bar was our favourite part of the course, offering views from the balcony of the winners having their photos taken, Jockeys mounting pre-race, and, of course, the horses parading around the ring as they warm up before competing.

There’s so many fantastic places to watch the races at Beverley – from the Premier enclosure’s winning post position, to the Paddock Bar overlooking the Parade Ring – we found there was tons of great places to enjoy and cheer on the horses during our visit.
