If you’d like to escape the madness of York Christmas Market this festive period, then we have the most fun experience for you. A stone’s throw away from the markets, you’ll find Castle Museum, which has transformed into a Victorian winter wonderland.
Escape the cold in the warmth of Castle Museum and their incredible Victorian street, Kirkgate, which was transformed with festive colours and seasonal objects, transporting you back to Victorian times for a ye olde Christmas experience. This year at the popular museum, you can discover Yorkshire Christmases through the ages.

The famous Victorian street, Kirkgate, has a sprinkling of snow to give it that wintery feel reminiscent of Dickensian England, and the shop windows and street have been given a festive makeover. But what about the big man himself?
Don’t worry. Santa will also be making an appearance on the street. But, in the past, you’ll find a traditional Green Father Christmas who will be wandering the snow-covered cobbles.

You can enjoy a photo opportunity in a traditional sleigh before getting creative in the decoration-making workshop. There is also a chance for kids under 5 to enjoy a storytelling experience in the Story Craft Theatre.
You can enjoy the Sixities Street, new for 2025, which displays festive items and Christmas songs straight from the 1960s. With so many eras to explore, all ages can enjoy a trip through Christmases past.
The event is currently running and will do so until the 4th Janaury 2026, so make sure you don’t miss out. You can book and find out more via the website here.
