Channel 5 Announces Filming For ‘The Hardacres’ Series Two Has Begun

The team responsible for Channel 5’s hit revival of All Creatures Great and Small, are back with a second series of The Hardacres, a period drama adapted from C.L. Skelton’s novels. The rags-to-riches tale set in the late 19th century in North Yorkshire was a hit with fans when it aired last year – and now we get to enjoy a second series.

It chronicles the Hardacre family, a working-class group from 1890s Yorkshire, as they face life’s hardships, love, and the pursuit of fortune. The show follows their journey from the gritty conditions of a fish dock to the grandeur of a country estate, sparked by a tragic accident that leaves Sam and Mary Hardacre unemployed and destitute.

Announcing that filming has started for a second series of The Hardacres, Channel 5 posted: “Hardacres fans, it’s happening! Filming for series 2 has officially begun More drama awaits at Hardacre Hall with Sam, Mary, Ma, and the whole family, are you ready?”

It may be set on the Yorkshire Coast, and the actors very much have Yorkshire accents. But, you’ll be surprised to learn that it was actually filmed in Dublin and Wicklow, Ireland in the winter months.

The series stars Claire Cooper, known for her role in Hollyoaks, as Mary Hardacre, alongside Liam McMahon (Hunger, The Fall, The Secret) as her husband Sam. Together, they portray a couple fighting to overcome the aftermath of a workplace accident. With the help of Mary’s mother and their three children, the Hardacres devise a business plan to lift themselves out of poverty, setting the stage for their remarkable rise to fortune.

Julie Graham portrays Ma, as Mary’s mother. Adam Little portrays one of Sam and Mary’s sons, Joe Hardacre. Shannon Lavelle and Zak Ford-Williams join the cast as his siblings Liza and Harry Hardacre. Other notable names include Cathy Belton, Owen Roe, Ingrid Craigie, Siobhan O’Kelly, and Taheen Modak.
