Channel 5’s New Yorkshire Drama By Makers Of ‘All Creatures Great & Small’ Airs Next Week

The team responsible for Channel 5’s hit revival of All Creatures Great and Small recently unveiled their latest project, The Hardacres, a period drama adapted from C.L. Skelton’s novels. And, the new Channel 5 series is set to start next week.

Make sure that you catch the latest addition to Channel 5’s strong Yorkshire game this Monday 7th October at 9pm. Made by Playground, the creators of the much-loved All Creatures remake, The Hardacres is a rags-to-riches story that follows the lives of the working-class Hardacre family as they move from a grimy fish dock in a small Victorian fishing village on the coast of Yorkshire to a vast country estate set in 1890’s Yorkshire.

An accident leaves the family unemployed and broke when the family come up with a radical business idea and soon they are rich beyond their wildest dreams. They’re soon faced with snobbery from aristocrats and servants – and must learn the hard way that real class isn’t a birth right, it’s something they’ve had all along.

Claire Cooper, best known for playing Jacqui McQueen in Channel 4’s Hollyoaks, plays family lead Mary Hardacre and described her character saying: “She’s a force of nature. To be honest, a vast amount of Yorkshire women are. Their culture and the landscape certainly determine Yorkshire women’s temperaments, I’d say. It’s a tougher life there, and she needs that toughness. But despite that, she’s an optimist, which is what’s wonderful about her.”

With Helen Skelton and Dan Walker’s Yorkshire Great and Small on a Thursday before All Creatures Great and Small and The Yorkshire Vet on a Tuesday autumn nights are feeling nice and cosy over on Channel 5 with all this Yorkshire content to consume. It’s bloomin’ brilliant if you ask me. I just can’t get enough of Yorkshire.
