The Rohl Dahl classic from 1964 has been adapted successfully twice on film, but did you know there was a West End version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Musical? Well, it’s coming to Leeds for a ten-week run at the end of 2022.
Charlie and the Chocolate family is a family favourite with every generation having watched the hunt for the golden ticket and felt a jealous pang as the children try the various treats. The musical is set to run from Friday 18th November to Friday 28th January 2023 promises to be a huge highlight over the 2022 Christmas period.

Posting to their social channels they wrote: “Featuring memorable songs from the iconic 70s film and sensational new tastebud-tickling toe-tappers, join us here in Leeds from Nov – Jan for a choc-filled fantastical family treat”.
Adapted from the novel by David Greig and directed by James Brining the reinvention of the West End classic is set to bring an all-singing, all-dancing version of Dahl’s classic children’s novel.
Artistic Director James Brining said: “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is such a special story, loved by generations of children and their parents over almost 60 years. It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to revisit the successful West End and Broadway versions and create a new production for audiences here in Leeds.

“With memorable characters, well-loved songs and the iconic Willy Wonka at its heart, this is a golden opportunity to create an entertaining and uplifting show for the whole family. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory celebrates imagination, love and community as well as what can be achieved when you follow your dreams.
“As the city regenerates and our thriving community continues to grow and develop, we’re looking forward to creating a brilliant festive buzz in Leeds and celebrating the festive season with everyone.”
