After it was announced that the Channel 5 hit Our Yorkshire Farm was set to end, the news that Reuben and dad Clive were doing a spin off Beyond the Yorkshire Farm had fans excited. And the show proved popular with some taken a shine to Clive’s transformation.
But, the show only had a short run and Reuben has discussed why dad, Clive only spent a short while on the show. The show featured the pair setting up the machinery business, which has been the basis for Reuben’s new show Reuben Owen: Life in the Dales.
At the time Clive said: “I think I’m stepping back from that now. I think he’s gonna go on on his own. Because he doesn’t want me on his hands. So, I have no plans to do anything in particular, but you never know, someone might be daft enough to ask me.”
When asked about his dad’s exit from the show Reuben said “that was going to be another spin-off series, Beyond the Yorkshire Farm… “Dad worked with us when I first started setting up the company because I was very new to it and Dad has done all sorts through his life with machinery.
“He showed us the basics of how to keep everything going. When he saw that we’d got it and he didn’t really need to be there he went back to focusing on his sheep and cows like he loves doing,” The Express reports.
So, basically once Clive had seen is son could manage on his own, he left him to his own devices and went back on to Ravenseat to tend to his farm. Sounds about right to be fair. And, from the first few episodes of the new series we’ve watched, Reuben seems to be getting along just fine on his own.
Reuben mentions that his mother Amanda Owen also has a look in. He said: “She’s always down the yard where we keep all our machinery. She comes down and helps with bits. She says just have a good time and make sure you look smart.”
