The Idyllic Yorkshire Village That’ll Transport You To A Victorian Christmas

A place that remains stoic and atmospheric throughout the seasons, this West Yorkshire village has been the subject of iconic literature, countless photographs, poems and more over the years – and with just one glance, it’s easy to see why. Haworth offers a rare glimpse into bygone eras – with its aged Yorkshire brick, quaint Weaver’s cottages, cobbled road and surrounding rolling hills locking visitors in a time capsule the minute they reach the top of Main Street. An effect the village particularly has at Christmas.

At Christmas, Haworth becomes prettier than ever – with twinkling lights lining Main Street, beautiful shopfronts coming to life with festive cheer, and tons of amazing community events that hundreds flock to annually, making for the most wholesome Christmas days out.

The annual events calendar puts the community at the heart of the season, taking Christmas back to what it should be: a time when you join with loved ones, meet with friends and appreciate one another’s company. Just like the good old days.

Annual traditions include a local Christmas market, Santa’s grotto and Christmas shopping nights, to name a few, alongside an array of old-fashioned festive traditions that are sure to transport you to a Victorian Christmas – particularly with the old worldly shopfronts, cobbles and cottages as the backdrop.

One of the main highlights includes the annual torchlight procession – which has been running for over 30 years now – where locals and visitors congregate at the bottom of the Main Street to proceed up to the top with torchlight and wands in hand, stopping to perform carols along the way. The famous event attracts hundreds annually, lighting up the night for an atmospheric Christmas celebration.

Guests can also enjoy an array of wholesome carol services, brass band performances, and a fantastic family-friendly Navity procession, where guests can wander up the Main Street with donkeys in tow, before joining a carol service and Navity performance at the church.
