Whitby Abbey is set to glow in the colours of the rainbow this Autumn, as the hit favourite Illuminated Abbey returns for Halloween 2021.
Returning after two years off as a result of the pandemic, the beloved event sees the iconic Abbey lit up by night as its overlooks and reflects in the water, with stunning live performances also taking place for Yorkshire folk to enjoy.
Announcing the news on their Facebook page, Whitby Abbey said: “The moment you’ve all been waiting for… After two years Illuminated Abbey is back!
“Enjoy the Gothic ruins lit up with spectacular illuminations and see live performances as you wander round the abbey this Halloween!”
A wonderful treat for those exploring the gothic town at a time when it thrives, the event will run from October 23rd-31st, with an event taking place each night from 6pm-9pm.
Operating outside of the Abbey’s usual opening times, guests will be required to purchase a ticket for the event – with adult tickets costing £5pp for members, and £12.50 for non members.
There’s currently no details surrounding this year’s performers, however, the official synopsis for the event reads: “Cast light on a dark history this Halloween! See Bram Stoker’s inspiration in a new light as Whitby Abbey is bathed in dramatic illuminations once again.
“Have your camera at the ready as you explore the gothic splendour of the ruins lit up with all the colours of the rainbow. Join for us an unforgettable evening of Victorian Gothic entertainment beneath the soaring Illuminated remains of Whitby Abbey.”
