This Yorkshire Sandwich Shop With Sea Views Is The Best In Yorkshire

When you think of the seaside, you think of brisk walks on the beach, fish & chips and maybe a nice ice cream. A traditional seaside spot is a British institution, and we love it, but the new breed of shop owners coming up with new and hip spots to eat and drink – transforming the typical seaside spot – is something we are here for. And, one spot that is doing just that is Mary’s Sandwich Shop in Sandsend, North Yorkshire.

Check out our visit to Mary’s Sandwich Shop in Sandsend below:

Local brothers Gabe and Cameron Hill hailing from Whitby have transformed what was the local village shop, which dates back to the early 20th century, into one of the coolest hang-out spots on the Yorkshire Coasts. Whether it’s grabbing a coffee after a dog walks on the beach, or sitting down to chow down on one of their amazing sarnies made from their own Japanese milk bread made in-house – accompanied by a nice craft ale or a glass of organic wine. Yes, please.

We travelled up the coast to try them for ourselves and had what can only be described as a sarnie-gasm after tasting their Bánh mì-inspired offering filled with sticky glazed pork belly, peanut butter, pickled veggies with roasted garlic mayo & sriracha (it was so good, I almost ordered another whilst still tucking into the one I was eating). We also tried their roast beef sarnie with horseradish that had come with a dipping pot of gravy. An absolute classic that was packed full of flavour.

Mary’s Sandwich spot pulls you in with the food, but you’ll stay for the vibes. The neighbourhood sandwich shop is a place where you prop up the bar and chat with staff whilst petting one of the many pooches that frequent it after a jaunt on the looong stretch of beach. It’s a no-reservation spot where you rock up and enjoy the vibes whether you get a seat or not.

After heading there for lunch, you know we’ve earmarked it for a night visit to try some of the smash burgers that made them famous before they turned their hand to sandwiches. And, we’ll be washing them down with some of the special cocktails and wines they have on offer. The Negroni with an English twist, using Whitby gin, and the vermouth and bitters both English sound perfect

If you’re looking for a hipster hangout by the sea then this Sandsend gem is for you. we promise you won’t leave disappointed, but you may leave with two sandwiches. Visit the website to find out more.
