With COVID still very much prevalent, much of the UK is looking for a good ol’ staycation in the UK and it seems one of our beautiful Yorkshire cities has topped the list of places people have been searching for a staycation this summer. You obvisoult want to visit the most popular staycation in the UK.

There has been an increase in people searching staycations in the UK on Google over the last month of 89%. This huge number represents the feeling of the people that 2021 is the year of the staycation. Yorkshire has places like Whitby, Leeds, Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and more – it’s not surprising that a place in Yorkshire has topped the list.
Experts from OnBuy.com used detailed analytics to see where people were looking to visit the most. The total search volumes were divided by the corresponding population of each city and then multiplied by the value of 100 to calculate monthly searches per 100.

The historic city of York in North Yorkshire was named most popular staycation in the UK the list with an average monthly search of 168,980 and a total of 104 searches per 100 people. That was 4 times as much as Bath, which came in 2nd place with 40,290 and 40 searches per 100 people and Perth, which had 13,770 average monthly online searches and 40 visits per 100.
Famed for its cobbled streets, the historic city of York already has crowds flooding into the city each year, so the results aren’t much of a surprise. There were 96,560 monthly searches for ‘hotels in York’. The city is built for tourists, with its fantastic castle and museums to visit as well as its range of bars and pubs – there is always something to do. Another Yorkshire city made it into the top least searched UK staycations. Wakefield came in third place.
