Danny Malin has quickly become a fan favourite with his YouTube channel, Rate My Takeaway, where he and Mr Cameraman travel around the country trying out the best and worst foods on offer. It’s proved to be a hugely popular format, garnering over 700k followers in a short space of time. Excitingly, the Rate My Takeaway visit to Hornsea has over 200k views, as he visited the fish & chip shop that was named best in the UK.
Last year, Whiteheads Fish & Chips took the best in the UK at the National Fish & Chip awards back in 2023 – and we went to try it out for ourselves. Finding it one of the best chippies we’ve tried with crisp golden batter and fluffy chips perfect for dipping in their curry sauce. But, what did Danny think of the seaside town’s number one chippy?
Ordering fish & chips, sage and onion patties, chicken and mushroom pie all presented on his table and chairs that’s become as a part of the videos as the YouTube presenter himself. Danny was positive about the Yorkshire chippy throughout even enjoying the East Yorkshire classic chip spice, which we’ve been known to paint our chips orange with.
Whilst trying the patties he described its ” Nice and crispy batter” and said it tasted “absolutely gorgeous,” especially when paired with the curry sauce.
The haddock, which is what we are all waiting for Danny to try really, went down a treat. Malin said: “You have got the most beautiful, white piece of haddock there… It’s soft, full of flavour, but the batter on there is so soft, so delicate.”
Danny decided that one of Yorkshire’s best chippies was in fact a “solid ten.” even anouncing that this has “pipped” his favourite chippy in York to the top spot in his list, which is saying something when he spends his days trying out great food. We love Danny’s content are even more so when he comes over to East Yorkshire, our home turf, to try out its best offerings.
