We love anything Sean Bean and it looks like we have a good chunk of the Sheffield lad to come as he’s been cast as the Sheriff of Nottingham in an upcoming Robin Hood TV series for MGM+ starring alongside Jack patten.
In a new modern take on the story brought to you by Lionsgate TV showrunner John Glenn, Robin Hood is described as a sweeping romantic adventure, that brings historical authenticity, psychological depth and heightened focus on Rob and Marian’s relationship.
It’s great to see Robin Hood return, the Kevin Cosner one famously featured Hardraw Force and Aysgarth Falls in the Yorkshire Dales – let’s hope they get used!
The series, following the Norman invasion of England, sees Rob a Saxon forester’s son and Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord fall in love. The pair work together to fight for justice and freedom – all the things we know Robin Hood stood for. Rob rises as the leader of a rebel group whilst Mrian infiltrates the power at court working together to bring peace to the land.
Sean Bean’s character is described as “a statesman, a strategist, and a builder of Nottingham itself.” Ruling “with an iron hand, not out of cruelty, but an unshakable belief that the law, as Normans see it, must be preserved” (Sounds right up Bean’s street).

That’s not all Bean has in the pipeline. His newest BBC drama, This City Is Ours, whose first-look images were released this month, tells the tale of a love affair unfolding against the backdrop of a crumbling crime gang. Bean’s character is looking to retire and pass on the family business. It looks to be an exciting watch.
