You don’t want to miss episode six of Channel 5’s Secret Life of the Forest, which looks a the secret life of Dalby Forest and Cropton Forest. It uses the two as the backdrop for exploration of nature and wildlife.
The synopsis for tonight’s episode reads: “With autumn well on its way, much of the wildlife in Dalby and Cropton Forests prepare for a new season and all that it brings.
“Over at the beaver pond, ecologist Cath is keeping a close eye on the family, as the older siblings begin to show signs of causing conflict in the wider group. Meanwhile, apprentice forester Holly must master using a chainsaw as the team cut down trees that could be risky to the public.”
This is the second series of the Secret Life of the Forest. The first aired in 2020 and was set in Kielder in Northumberland. The second series is filmed at Dalby, Cropton and Langdale forests in Yorkshire, which are all Forest England sites in the North York Moors National Park.

Radio Times’ review of the show describes how ‘delightfully meditative’ the docuseries episode tonight is as it focuses on summer and autumn in Dalby and Cropton Forests.
Secret life at Dalby ForestIt highlights ‘conflict’ between siblings down at the beaver bond along with animals out on the hunt after dark. Highlighting the areas status as a dark sky reserve hence a visit from the ‘astronomical society gazes at some of the UK’s clearest skies’.
