The George Hotel in Hull, located in the creatively named, Land of Ginger, which it is speculated is called so due to the sale or storage of the spice ginger – adding to the mystery of the tiny window in the all. The window is said to have been used by a porter at the hotel keeping their eyes out for stage coaches that may need immediate attention (talk about customer service).

The technique is said to be a 17th-century method of making sure visitors to the coaching inn received the fastest customer service. Can you imagine sitting and watching through a small crack in a wall just so someone would be greeted as quickly as possible? Think Travelodge need to take note and start upping its game.
