York city has one of the most beautiful skylines of all the cities in the UK. With stunning architecture, the famous Roman walls and of course the York Minster, who wouldn’t want to look out over it whilst enjoying a few drinks and some delicious food? But, sadly there aren’t many opportunities to do so, except at the Malmaison hotel where you can dine at its rooftop restaurant Sora taking in the breathtaking views. It’s certainly one of the best things to do in York, besides visit one of its many pubs that is.
Sora, sits above the city on the seventh floor and offers up mix and match small plates. From a tasty selection of sushi, and Robatayaki to pan-Asian tapas dishes. All to be enjoyed with a signature cocktail in hand taking in the breathtaking panoramic views of York not available anywhere else in the city.

Sora has introduced an Asian twist on classic afternoon tea all enjoyed whilst taking in views of the wonder Minster. The most perfect way to spend a summer’s day in York city centre with friends, family for a special occasion or just for the fun of it.
The lavish afternoon tea has the Asian-theme cleverly entwined through the menu from the crane tiered stand filled thats with delicate cakes on top, and then sushi pieces, skewers, a mini salad and tempura prawns.
And, of course, you can’t have an afternoon tea without a scone, Sora offers their incredible matcha scones with a kumquat jam. We loved the non-traditional take on the afternoon tea with the sushi in particular winning us over,
Every item on the stand for the Sora Asian afternoon tea is infused with classic Asian flavours. A particular favourite was the pork belly and chicken yakitori, which were both succulent and moreish – and a real treat for those that want to enjoy something different.
York city is known for its many brilliant bars – and Sora sits up there with the rest as a place to enjoy a great cocktail. So, it would be rude not to enjoy a cocktail with the afternoon tea. Since Sora is so known for their fantastic signature cocktail menu that offers the Asian twist on classics. Our favourite cocktails were peach & lychee spritz and the chocolate and chilli old fashioned. The peach & lychee spritz is a fruity moreish treat with a peachy taste and the lychee offering the Asian flavours.
