Golden, crispy batter. Thick mushy peas. Chunky chips. Nothing beats a proper chippy. Which is exactly what The Fish Bank in Sherburn has to offer.
Tucked away in a small village near Selby, the modern-yet-traditional chippy has become loved for its light and crispy batter – a signal of just how well they’ve honed their craft in the short three years since taking over the previously-closed shop.

You don’t just need to take our word for it, either, as just a few months ago, expert tasters from the Fry Magazine Awards dropped their forks in awe after tasting, struggling to find any words of criticism at all.
Offering a menu of your fish and chip classics, guests can expect white, flaky fish when dining at The Fish Bank, with non-greasy golden batter, perfectly fried chips and all the best trimmings.
Think homemade tartar, tasty curry sauce and deliciously thick gravy.
If that wasn’t all, guests can also enjoy proper jumbo sausages, alongside newer chippy faves such as salt and pepper chicken, snow white fish bites, and moreish cheesy chips. Basically, everything you want from your local chippy, and a bit more.

Fry Magazine went on to name The Fish Bank one of the top 50 chippies in the UK, which, of course, is quite the honour given the cuisine can be found on most street corners here in the UK. The chippy prides itself on its Yorkshire-sourced produce, which includes delicious haddock sourced right from the seas of the Yorkshire coast.
Classed as part of both Leeds and Selby, the chippy is the perfect stop-off after a day out at the nearby Castleford Xscape, with the lovely Lotherton Hall just a short drive away and plenty of beautiful countryside to enjoy.
Our recommendation? The biggest fish they have on the rack. Always.
The Fish Bank was taken over three years ago by former Environmental Health officer Jonathan, who had a complete career change after a long 20 years consulting on hygeine and safety (good hands to be in when dining anywhere!). Now, the chippy contnues its pursuit to deliver incredible fish and chips, with a fresh modern renovation and an ongoing hunt for the best, freshest fish around.
The Fish Bank is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and you can find them at 3 Low Street, Sherburn in Elmet, LS25 6BG.
