Popular Fast Food Chain Wendy’s Set To Open In Leeds City Centre

Leeds is set to welcome popular American fast food chain Wendy’s to the city centre with signage already up outside.

The retro American fast food chain is set to re-establish its presence on British high streets after an absence of 21 years.

Wendy’s originally introduced itself to the UK market during the 1980s and 1990s, but unfortunately, stores like the one on Briggate had to close their doors in the late 90s.

Recently, signs have been observed going up at the former Samsung store location, as preparations are underway for the highly anticipated return of this beloved burger chain.

Situated at the junction of Briggate and The Headrow, this new store will be right next to the original Wendy’s site in Leeds.

Sinage can seen in the former lot occupied by Samsung right next door to where the original Leeds Wendy’s was, which closed back in the 90s.

Back in June 2021, Wendy’s officially announced its comeback to the United Kingdom by opening a location in Reading.

There, they began serving their iconic American menu items that fans have come to adore, including the Baconator, Dave’s Single, the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, and the delectable Frosty dessert.

Other delights include: Cclassic burgers, fries, milkshakes and more on the menu such as breakfast sandwiches and burgers, pastries, loaded fries, jacket potatoes, and more.

Since then, Wendy’s has expanded with other restaurants across the UK including into South Yorkshire city, Sheffield.

Property company Fox Lloyd Jones about the new Wendy’s in Leeds said: “Delighted to announce the recent completion of 88-91 Briggate, which has been let to Wendy’s providing their only Leeds site.

“We look forward to seeing them trade very soon. We acted on behalf of private landlord in this letting with our joint agent Josh Howe at Savills.”

Abigail Pringle, Wendy’s International and Chief Development Officer, stated at the time, “Our vision is to become the world’s most thriving and beloved restaurant brand, and we’re well on our way.

“Our team is diligently working to open more restaurants across the country, starting in the southeast, and forming new franchise partnerships to accelerate our brand’s growth, contribute to the local economy, and create more job opportunities.”

We haven’t heard when it will open just yet, but keep a close eye as we’ll announce an opening date.
