Fancy a spooky stay? Built on the ruins of the first Norman house built in 1180AD, and located in the most haunted city in Europe, The Trembling Madness Apartment is known for having unnatural activity. Many previous visitors have said they’d seen or heard something abnormal during their stay – including the sound of ghostly babies crying in the night and weird noises at 3am.
Owned by the owner of the bar nearby, The Madness Chamber is well over 600 years old and is rumoured to be haunted by ghosts, which is not surprising considering its age and location.
The beautiful stay is like stepping back in time as it has ancient wood panelling, with a small outside yard that has the famous York Minster overlooking it.
It has one beautiful four-poster bed, and one double sofa bed so can comfortably sleep four. The 11th-Century house has all the modern amenities such as a microwave, fridge and wifi. So, although you are surrounded by spooky interiors, you can still make a quick coffee in the morning.
York city has a dark past, hence why it was named the most haunted city in Europe by the International Ghost Research Foundation. There are over 500 reported hauntings within the city walls.
Whether you believe in ghosts or not, this is a beautiful stay in a great location on Stonegate in York city centre. The furnishings fit the dark mahogany colour of the old wood panelling, and the place feels steeped in history, which is what you want when you’re staying in one of the most richly historic cities in the country.
The House of the Trembling Madness is an amazing bar located in front of the apartments and there’s also a beer & spirit shop attached specialising in over 6,000 drinks that stays open until midnight.
It is around £98 per night, which is amazing for the location. If you think this stay sounds like a bit of you, you can find out more by visiting the site here. Whether you see or hear and supernatural activity during your stay or not, we are sure you’ll have a great stay.
