York is a labyrinth of pretty streets and snickelways with thousands flocking to the city every year to wander them. And one street that stands above the rest with its charm and old-fashion vibes is the cities most famous, The Shambles which has been named as one of the most beautiful streets in the world by travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler.
Anyone who has been to York will tell you that the quirky street is the busiest in the city with visitors peering into and visiting on the the independent businesses that call the street home. It’s been praised for its charming timber-framed buildings that bend and, at times, hang over the cobblestoned street below. The 14th century spot is full of shops selling all-sorts from the best little sandwich shop, to the tourist shops selling wizarding merch.

The list features the Shambles alongside some incredible company, including the streets of Brooklyn with the cobbled streets and views of the Brooklyn Bridge in the US, the Rue de l’Abreuvoir and Rue des Saules, in Paris is named as a must-visit destination with its colorful buildings and ivy-covered walls. The world is full if idyllic streets and York’s was named amongst the world’s best.
The popular street wasn’t the only one to feature in the list with London’s Portobello Road, Bath, Edinburgh and the Cotswold featuring in the 71 cities in the list.
