Yorkshire is home to hundreds of beautiful villages known for their charm, picturesque views and tranquillity. A village is a great place for those searching for a sense of community and also tends to be surrounded by natural beauty making them the perfect spot to visit. And, one village in East Yorkshire has been named in a list of the best secret villages to live in.
The little Yorkshire village may not be known by man in Yorkshire but has managed to sneak into the 20 ‘best villages to live in’, compiled by the Sunday Times. We know we will be heading to check it out to see what all the fuss is about
The village in question is Bishop Wilton, located in East Yorkshire, just a few miles from the famous Stamford Bridge. It was the only Yorkshire village to make it into the list – which says something about it.
The newspaper aimed to search for the friendliest and prettiest places to life that you may not have heard of and said that Bishop Wilton was ‘good looking’ thanks to its grass verges, stream, church shops, pubs and all the other attributes that make a village quaint.
The average house prices are reported to be around £395,00, making it an affluent village to visit as well. The Fleece In looks like a standard village pub with a roaring fire, checked carpet and classic pub grub served up – all perfect for the colder months. If you fancy visiting the East Yorkshire village, you can even book a room.
It lies on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, just below Garrowby Hill, which is the highest point of the Yorkshire Wolds standing 807 ft above sea level. The unspoilt village stands as a good base for exploring the western part of the Wolds.
