It won’t come as much as a surprise to Yorkshire folk that one of our beaches has made TripAdvisor’s Best of the Best Awards 2021 list of best beaches in Europe. Good old Filey Beach has been named in the top 25, which is great news for the area.
Filey beach is a spectacular wide expanse of beach that is could not be more picturesque if it tried. It beat out some top famous beaches such as Ayia Napa, Porto-Vecchio and other famous much-loved beaches. As 2021 looks to be the year of the staycation, it’s great to know we have some world-class spots to visit this summer.

Filey beach, in North Yorkshire, earned its 18th place position which was voted on by the savvy users of the leisure website TripAdvisor. It’s a huge beach that has some impressive cliffs that make for an idyllic backdrop to the perfect summer staycation. As well as sunbathing, the beach is a great place to go surfing and horse riding. The rankings are decided by 5-star reviews given on Tripadvisor.

Christine Maguire, vice president and general manager of global media business at Tripadvisor, said: “Your last trip to the beach probably feels like a lifetime ago, but with vaccine programmes rolling out worldwide, safely making that beach getaway a reality just might be in reach! In fact, a recent Tripadvisor survey revealed that 60% of travellers are very likely to take a beach trip in 2021.”
“Whether your preferred kind of beach is preened and pristine or rugged and rough, this list of travellers’ favourites is just the inspiration you need to get planning your next beach break.”
Last year, Filey was voted the number 6 beach in the world, so this is not its first taste of stardom.
