Hull has once again proven to be the perfect location for period drama filming. Hull’s Old Town has proved popular with film crews as Netflix has taken over the cobbled streets and turned it into Victorian London for Enola Holmes 2 starring Stanger Things Millie Bobby Brown, The Witcher’s Henry Caville and Harry Potter’s Helena Bonham Carter.
This A-list lineup travelled up to the East Yorkshire city of Hull to film in the Old Town for the Netflix series loosely based on a series of Sherlock Holmes-inspired young adult fiction novels by American author Nancy Springer. Mille Bobby reprises her role as Enola and Helena will be playing her free-spirited mother Eudora.
Other locations for filming Enola Holmes 2 included Dorchester Prison, Chatham Historic Dockyard, Royal Oak pub, Great James Street, Carey Street, Montague Street, Hankley Common,
Henry Cavill can be seen dressed in a Victorian outfit with longer hair than usual strolling through the adapted Old Town streets of Hull surrounded by a film crew with cameras on him. There are also horses and carts and other various Victorian things in the shot.
Cavill could also be seen chatting in a long jacket to crew whilst on the streets of Hull. The excitement around the whole thing even got a mention on Lorraine, with them branding it ‘Hullywood’, with all the A-list celebrities on the street at the moment.
Millie Bobby Brown was also spotted wrapped in what looks like a blanket staying warm between takes, whilst strolling down the street. It seems the filming for the movie is in full swing and is set to continue for the next few days.
Filming took place in Hull on Tuesday 5th October and Wednesday 6th October. The High Street, Scale Lane, Bishops Lane and Chapel Lane were closed off to traffic, but pedestrians were able to catch a glimpse when the cameras were not rolling.
What is the plot of Enola Holmes 2?
The stories follow 14-year-old Enola Holmes, younger sister to the famous Sherlock (played by Henry Cavill), as she embarks on dangerous adventures. The first film in the series was released last year and achieved over 76 million views within four weeks, making it one of Netflix’s most successful movies of all time.
Enola Holmes 2, sees young prodigy Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown) open her own detective agency. She’s approached by a young factory worker whose sister has gone missing, Enola goes undercover at Lyons Match Factory.

Hull’s Whitechapel streets are used in Enola Holmes 2 as Enola searches for Sarah, the missing match factory worker.
Hull’s Old Town is also used for the opening scene when Enola is being chased by the police along High Street between Chapel Lane and Scale Lane. Hull’s cobbled streets and red-bricked buildings don’t need much doing to them to make them look the part.
