This Yorkshire City Has Been Named Foodie Capital Of The UK

Surprising to some, but not to us. Sheffield may have to change its name from the steel city to foodie city as it beats London and Manchester to be crowned Britain’s best city for food. That’s right, the coolest city in Yorkshire, has the tastiest treats.

The list, compiled by All.com, looks at Google reviews, Michelin Guide ratings, social data and sentiment analysis of cities outside the capital. Sheffield took the top spot with a total score of 99. It boasts four Michelin Guide-listed eateries, 71 food markets, and 99 food festivals.

Festivals helping to gain the top spot include the popular Sheffield Food Festival in May, and Peddler Market, a monthly market full of some of the best emerging street foodies.

But, what has Sheffield to offer to score so high?

Well, there’s the Peddler’s Food market each month as well as the amazing as well as Cutlery Works, which is the biggest food hall in the North. Then there is Kommune, and Sheffield Plate, which all serve up delicious street food from all over the world. Along with that, the likes of Kelham Island, Devonshire St, and other spots across the city have some great eateries with new ones popping up all the time.

Sheffield is also set to get a new container park in the city centre. It’ll house a variety of amenities, such as food and drink units, event spaces, and a dedicated stage for live music. These spaces will be contained within a series of shipping containers, organized over two floors surrounding a central open-air ‘plaza’ seating area. Food and beverage vendors are planned to occupy these spaces.

Last Year, Sheffield was named a ‘paradise for food lovers’ according to Accor. The city achieved the highest score, particularly excelling in the food festival category.
