If you’re looking for a slower pace of life after running the rat race all your life. Then time by the coast may seem like the most ideal spot to retire – and you’d be right as The Telegraph has named one of the Yorkshire coast’s gems an ideal retirement spot.
Bridlington, located in East Yorkshire is a lively seaside town in the summer, but also has all the amenities you’d want in retirement. On its doorstep is Bempton Cliffs, an ideal spot for birdwatchers – and even if you’re not a birdwatcher the views out to sea are magnificent.
Long walks on the vast stretches of beach that reach from Bridlington up to Fraisthorpe are the best way to spend those well-earned days of rest. The East Yorkshire beach is hidden down a long country lane, Fraisthorpe beach is the perfect ‘secret’ beach that only locals tend to know about. It has a lovely wide stretch of beach where you can walk for miles in either direction. You can enjoy observing windsurfers whilst you wander along the vast expanse of the sandy beach. Afterwards, head down to the Cow Shed cafe for a lovely brew.
And, inland you’ve got the Yorkshire Wolds on your doorstep for fantastic hikes. Bridlington was named among four other UK locations including Worthing in West Sussex and Weymouth in Dorset.
The publisher discussed the area for retirement writing: “When it comes to deciding where to live in retirement, it could be an attractive option to move to the coast. With the quieter, more relaxed lifestyle on offer, the change to a new environment with beautiful scenery could be right for you.”
Discussing the area it said it had: “all the facilities you would want in a modern town alongside quiet areas, Bridlington is a Yorkshire town that strikes the perfect balance between old and new. Its biggest draw is its sense of history, with a magnificent Old Town”
