This Yorkshire Seaside Village Has Been Named Best Staycation Spot

Yorkshire villages are known for their picturesque charm, and none is more beautiful than the coastal gem of Robin Hood’s Bay, nestled in the North York Moors. It’s no surprise that this village has earned a spot among the UK’s top ten prettiest locations.

Robin Hood’s Bay, located on the Yorkshire Coast, is a historic fishing village. Its distinctive red-tiled roofs create a perfect postcard scene as you approach via the Cleveland Way. According to research by finance experts at Aqua, it’s been crowned the top hidden gem for a staycation.

Despite its undeniable appeal, the village sees only around 2,400 Google searches per month and has approximately 107,859 Instagram posts, a surprisingly low number for a destination with so much to offer. The experts note that the most special places are often those not overwhelmed by social media, allowing visitors to unwind and explore in peace, off the well-trodden tourist path.

Over the years, Robin Hood’s Bay has been regularly featured in lists of the UK’s most beautiful spots, and it’s easy to see why. The approach greets you with breathtaking coastal views from the top of the hill, and the scenery only improves as you descend the steep path into the heart of the village. Once there, you can lose yourself in the maze of cobbled lanes that wind through the quaint, old cottages.

The beach at Robin Hood’s Bay is ideal for rock pooling and spotting marine life – it’s also a great place to bring your dog. Stroll along the coastline and enjoy the view from below as you gaze back towards the village.

After your seaside walk, head back into the village to visit one of its charming restaurants, pubs, or traditional shops. Though small, Robin Hood’s Bay offers plenty to fill a perfect day out.

Our favourite pub is the Laurel Inn, named for the laurel tree outside. Inside, it boasts all the cosy features you’d expect from an old-fashioned pub – wooden beams and a roaring fire – making it an ideal place to shelter from the wind or relax after an autumn walk.
